Before starting out, we ate lunch at Subway. We also worked on hydrating ourselves.
Just down the street, this flag silently cheered us on. Our agenda included walking to the Lincoln Park Zoo from downtown, bumming around the zoo, and walking back. The plan changed only sightly. More on that later. . .
We started off by the harbor and headed for the zoo.
We walked along the lake. Somehow, Mad and I were both surprised to come across sand!
Take a look at the walkway behind Mad. See how wet it is? The waves were splashing up over the wall. It was also colder than I had anticipated.
At the zoo, we saw a primate.
A sun bear.
And a polar bear!!! We are given to understand this is OUR polar bear, on loan to Chicago while the Como Zoo refurbishes his habitat here in Saint Paul.
The Rhino wouldn't stand still for this picture. I don't know why Mad is the blurry one. . .

A nest with eggs and a hovering goose. . .
Wild dog from Africa with meaty bone. . .
Mad and a giant frog!
Mad and a giant frog!
We were walking back when we changed plans. We were ready to sit for a while. So we hopped on the red line and went to Chinatown. (Of course I turned my Garmin off and didn't count those miles!)
We looked at purses and shoes and wallets and clutches. And Mad. didn't. buy. anything. I was shocked!
She did pick up a fabulous pair of Converse All Stars later that night in downtown. They will be featured in tomorrow's post.
