new walk

Because of some upcoming travel, I have adjusted my training schedule. I did cross training on Tuesday and my 4 mile walk yesterday. While I never thought I'd say it, yesterday I couldn't bear the thought of doing the same old same old loop through downtown. So I set off down the hill, intent on exploring the river.

10 years I've been in this house. And less than a mile away, all sorts of interesting stuff. Let me show you.

Here we are at Harriet Island Regional Park.

Here, the ticket booth for the Paddle Boat Tours. I've been. Mad has, too. She didn't care for it. . .

Here is the Covington Inn - a bed and breakfast right on the mighty Mississippi! I have NOT been. Maybe I should. Seems silly, though, to spend money to sleep down the hill from the house. . .

Imagine my surprise, coming across this: The River Cafe. Open year round. Who knew? They have happy hour. Hmm. Perhaps tonight. The weather is right for it.

Showboat. Showboat! SHOWBOAT!! This riverboat has a theater inside. It's owned by the U of M. I haven't been to a play here since high school. And speaking of high school, I'd like to thank Mr. Fredrickson for making sure I got to the play, other circumstances notwithstanding. . .

I'm not sure what Tuffy's function is.

Jet skis on the river. Note the old jail in the background on the right. Best view in the city!

See that guy sitting on his boat? The boat is called 'My high.' I must say, it is not practical to own a boat in Minnesota. You can only use them four, maybe five months out of the year, tops. That said, yesterday, wandering around the marina, I really, REALLY wanted a boat. . .

Out on Raspberry Island, I resisted the urge to dig some of these up to transplant into my own front yard.

I did NOT climb the stairs. This is the underside of the Wabasha Bridge, featured frequently on these pages.

The Robert Street Bridge, along with the lift bridge and railroad tracks.

Also on Raspberry Island.

Here's a tug boat, guiding a barge into port. Port? Harbor?

A collection of ropes. . .

I managed to time my river meanderings such that it was EXACTLY 4 miles (once I did a quick trip around the backyard for that final 2/100ths of a mile!). This flower is making its debut appearance in my yard. Can't wait to see how it looks.
